Fine collection of Qing period Chinese textiles to be sold in our 14/15 March Collectors sale
The private collection comprises finely embroidered antique silks including highly prized dragon robes. These robes were the exclusive preserve of high ranking court officials, elaborately embroidered in coloured silks and gold and silver threads, with five clawed dragons and auspicious symbols. The collection also includes less formal costume and mandarin squares, or rank badges, these square panels were attached to clothing and indicated official rank of the wearer, with different animals indicating differing civil or military position. Estimates range from £100-1,500.
