1930 Lagonda 2 litre low chassis Speed tourer, Type 2B.T2, chassis No. CD 6481/2/337, engine No.1501, long term ownership since 1961 and recent £25,000 mechanical and cosmetic review.
This very attractive sporting Lagonda was purchased by the vendors father Mr Eddie Meayers on 3rd July 1961 from a Mr Walter Bloor for £195 (original bill of sale in the history file). It had previously attended many VSCC and Lagonda events including appearing in a photograph of the start line at Goodwood at the Anniversary meet on Saturday 10th September 1955, (image on file). This was the start of a long term passion for Eddie regarding this car which lasted the rest of his life until he died in 2025 aged 98. It was regularly used by him until 1969 for rally's and family outings, with his children having fond memories of them and not so fond memories of all the breakdowns! In 1969 the car was showing its age and in particular the engine needed some attention. Eddie entrusted the car to the famous Lagonda Specialist Captain Ivan Forshaw of Dorset who in May 1969 took delivery of the prized Lagonda with a view of rebuilding the engine and restoring the car. There is a lot of handwritten correspondence between Captain Forshaw and Eddie regarding the work however due to financial constraints it appears not to have advanced very far and amazingly the car remained in storage in the workshop until 1993. In desperation a very ill Captain Forshaw wrote to Eddie in February 1993 who had buried his head in the sand regarding the car and pleaded with him to collect it after paying his outstanding bill for the engine rebuild totally £1554.24 (bill on file) some 24 years after its original delivery to the workshop. At some point it was decided to remove the original super charger and convert the engine to run on twin carbs for reliability. Eddie took delivery of the car in 1993 and then kept it garaged but not finished having moved it with him on a house move. It wasn't until 2021-2022 that Eddie, with his families support, instructed the Lagonda Specialist Phil Bickers of Classic and Vintage Engineering, Mildenhall, Suffolk to systematically restore the car and get it running and driving to the high standard it is in today. There are bills on file totalling approximately £25,000 for the work which took approximately two years to complete and which are very detailed and well worth reading. Sadly Eddie was too old to drive the car himself but enjoyed being driven in it some fifty four years after it was taken off the road. Following Eddies death last year aged 98 his children have now decided that it should be driven and enjoyed by another enthusiast. A truly unique opportunity to buy a well sorted Vintage Lagonda with very original and attractive Lagonda coachwork and probable low mileage . It is supplied with a large history file including period photographs, letters, invoices and related ephemera and old style log books. At time of writing there may be some spares included in the sale but this is to be confirmed. (Subject to 12% buyers' premium inclusive of VAT)

Absentee Bidding
For clients unable or not wishing to attend our sale we are happy to accept absentee bids. Absentee bids can either be left in person with our office team, phoned or emailed to us. We simply require lot numbers and descriptions and the maximum bid which you wish to leave. Absentee bids are then transferred to our auction pages and the auctioneer will bid on your behalf. If the lot can be purchased at a lower price than your maximum bid our auctioneers will always endeavour to work in your interest to purchase the lot for you as cheaply as other bids will allow. If the same bid is left by two people on a lot we will precedence to the bidder who leaves the bid first.
We are happy to provide condition reports for online and absentee bidders and to supply additional photographs on any lot. We ask that condition report requests are submitted at least 24 hours prior to the sale. (Whilst every care is taken to give an accurate condition report, we accept no responsibility for any omissions or errors in our reports. It is the buyer’s responsibility to view the lots and satisfy themselves as to their condition.)
Telephone Bidding
We are happy to accept phone bids for our Fine Art and Collectors’ sales. Phone bids may be arranged in person with our office team, by phone or by email. We simply require the lot number and details of the lots which you wish to bid on and contact phone number / numbers. Our phone bidders will call in advance of your chosen lot / lots and bid on your behalf during the sale.
Telephone bids must be booked by 4pm the day before the sale but can be arranged earlier, we have limited lines and certain lots can be over-subscribed for phone bidding, in such instances we conduct a first come, first served basis and we encourage clients to book well in advance or risk being disappointed.
