We have a growing reputation as a specialist auctioneer of books and manuscripts. We often include important books in our Fine Art auctions but predominantly feature books and manuscripts in our quarterly Collector’s sales, where they form a sub-section of the sale, typically comprising 100-200 lots, including individual rarities, early documents, first editions, leather and fine bindings and groups of collectibles. We are always happy to receive inquiries from clients who may be selling individual books, collections or whole libraries.
Our book department is overseen by Daniel Wright, who has over twenty years experience in the auction business, he has overseen considerable growth in our book sales in recent years. Notable past lots include an exceptionally rare 1471 German printed treatise on farming which achieved £60,000 in 2022 and a first edition, first print of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone which sold for £6,200 in 2022. At this time, we continue to feature the Bernard Sayers collection of Natural History books, a vast comprehensive collection which has featured in our sales since 2022 and totalled over £100,000 to date.
