John Caspall was born in Luton in 1931, following his education he joined the RAF in the late 1940’s. His career in armed forces was cut prematurely short following a serious motorcycle accident. By the 1960’s he was working for a large metal corporation as their chief chemist.
Away from the world of work John’s passion for antiques grew and along with his wife Josephine they ran a Cotswolds based antique shop. His passion for early metalware and oak furniture were evident with what the couple collected personally. John’s passion for the subject also lead him to author the book ‘Fire & Light in the home pre - 1820’.
In late 2014 a large part of the collection John had lovingly curated was put up for auction, now almost 11 years later we are please to be handling the final part of his story with the auction of the residual part of his collection.
The sale comprising of over 50 lots will be offered without reserve in our February 2025 Fine Art and Antique auction, taking place on 18th and 19th February. It includes many fine pieces of country and vernacular furniture and related items.
The present collection comprises works from the artist’s estate spanning his career, the majority of the works have not been exhibited in decades. This collection represents a rare exciting opportunity at auction to present a catalogue of truly original works by an important modern British artist.
