C.B., C.M.G., C.B.E. and Q.S.A. group of four awarded to Major General W. E. Blewitt - comprising The Most Honourable Order of the Bath (C.B.) Military Division, Companions breast badge, silver, gilt and enamel on swivel ring suspension and riband buckle, The Most Distinguished Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.), silver, gilt and enamel on swivel ring suspension and riband buckle, The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire Commanders neck badge (C.B.E.) first type Military Division - silver, gilt and enamel, Queen's South Africa medal with two clasps - Defence of Ladysmith and Elandslaagte, Major General William Edward Blewitt (1854 - 1939) was born in Pinner and was educated at Harrow. He was commissioned at the R.A. on 12th February 1874 - promoted Captain 1st Aug. 1883, Major 14th March 1891 and Lt. Colonel 13th February 1900. He served in the Second Boer War where he was mentioned twice in General White's despatches on 2nd December 1899 and 23rd March 1900. During the War he was wounded and invalidid to England. He was awarded the C.B. in 1908, C.M.G. in 1900 and C.B.E. in 1919. He was secretary of the Ordnance Committee, Commandant of the School of Gunnery for Horse Artillery, Director of Artillery at the War Office, General Officer Commanding South Coastal Defence (1911 - 1914) and Portsmouth Garrison (1914 - 1916)

Fine Great War D.S.O., M.C. group of six awarded to Lt. Colonel Guy Blewitt late Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry - comprising Distinguished Service Order, Military Cross, 1914 Star with Mons clasp, War and Victory with M.I.D. oak leaf, Montenegro Order of Danilo 5th class (L.G. 09.03.1917). Lt. Colonel Guy Blewitt (1884 - 1969) was born 5th December 1884 - the son of Major General W. E. Blewitt. He was educated at Harrow and joined the Army in 1905. He served in the Great War in France and was mentioned in despatches five times - 19/10/1914, 01/01/1916, 15/06/1916, 15/05/1917 and 05/07/1919 and was wounded twice. He was awarded the M.C. on 01/01/1915, the D.S.O. on 04/06/1917. He retired to take up farming in 1922. He was appointed D.L. of Essex in 1933 and was Master of the Essex & Suffolk Hounds 1926 - 1929

FEES : Please note that if you bid on a timed online auction, you will be charged our standard buyer’s premium of 20% subject to VAT (24% in total) plus an additional 3% (plus VAT) timed online bidding charge on the hammer price.

Payment & Collection : Our office will remain open for phone calls and emails only during the lockdown period. All auction lot payments must be made remotely before collection (over the telephone or online). We will provide an in-house postage and packing service for small non fragile items. All larger and fragile items will need to be collected by an independant shipping company or can be collected strictly by appointment with our staff. We kindly request you call the office on your arrival and the lots will be brought out to your vehicle.
