Douglas Pittuck (1911-1993)

Coming up in Reeman Dansie’s summer Fine Art sale on 28th / 29th June is a collection of work by family descent from the artist’s studio. This is one part of the collection with more coming up in our August sale.

Douglas Pittuck was born in London in 1911 and educated at Wallingford Grammar School and the Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Art where his tutors included Barnett Freedman, Eric Ravilious, Allan Gwynne-Jones and Albert Rutherston. His studies were interrupted by conscription in 1940 when he joined the Oxford and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry. In 1948 Douglas was appointed Art Master at Barnard Castle School, a post which he occupied for twenty-five years, influencing a generation of artists. He exhibited widely including one-man shows at the Bowes Museum and Castle Gallery, Barnard Castle. He painted up until his death at the grand age of 90.
