Fine clocks spanning four centuries

The sale includes a good selection of clocks, including some scarce late 17th Century Lantern clocks. Of particular local interest, there is a fine Lantern clock by Damant, Colchester, (lot 591), made when the town was a major clock-making centre in East Anglia. There is also a rare, dated London-made Lantern clock by Richard Griffin dated 1696, (lot 592). Amongst the other clocks, there is a fine early 18th Century chiming bracket clock by R. Williams, London, in a very attractive, caddy top case, (lot 642). The 19th Century is well represented by a good quality clock by Henri Marc Paris with a very impressive ormolu case, (lot 627) and a fine French ormolu and enamel cased Gothic revival clock garniture, (lot 639). The 20th Century is represented by several examples of the ever-popular Jaeger-LeCoultre Atmos clock (lot 598 & 599). There has never been a better time to collect clocks, as prices in recent years have become very affordable and, in our opinion, represent a good investment opportunity.
