Selling

Selling with Reeman Dansie is a straight forward procedure and we are committed to achieving the best possible results for our clients. Our range of sales means that we can offer a proper context to a broad spectrum of antiques, collectables and household furnishings. If you have items which you are considering putting forward for auction either contact our office by phone or using our online valuation form, or drop in to our office to discuss your requirements with our valuations team.

Arranging a Valuation

We have regular intake days throughout the year when we invite clients to bring items in by appointment, we don’t limit the volume that people bring on these days but if you have a large quantity please discuss it in advance with our staff to ensure our allocated time slots allow sufficient time. We may turn away certain items which are deemed to be of insufficient value for sale but are happy to offer an opinion on any items which you are considering for sale.

We offer free auction valuations by prior appointment each Saturday morning from 9am – 1pm. At all other times there are usually valuers on hand during normal office hours to inspect items but please phone in advance to ensure availability.

Our valuers are also happy to arrange to visit you to inspect items which you are considering for sale, we make no charge for this service, for further details see our Valuations Page

The Sale Process

Items are receipted when we take them in and you will be allocated a unique selling number which you may quote in further correspondence with us. We will channel items into the most appropriate sale context which will often mean your items may be allocated into more than one specialist sale to maximise their sale value. Prior to each sale you will receive a pre-sale report by email or post, this will detail all of your lots together with estimates and any agreed reserves. Clients are very welcome to attend sales or can listen-in live online to our specialist auctions as they sell. After each sale you will will receive a post sale report and proceeds are sent either by bank transfer or cheque 16 days after the sale date. Any items which are unsold will usually be reoffered at a reduced estimate in a later sale (or may be returned to clients if they prefer).

Commission and Charges

Charges for sale are 16% commission together with a £5 lotting fee per lot, per sale. We make a nominal fee for catalogue illustration where we consider that illustration in the printed catalogue may benefit an item, all charges are subject to VAT. In the instance of an item being unsold only the lotting fee is payable, items in our care are insured and stored prior to sale at no charge to our clients. We can arrange couriers for larger consignments for which our recommended couriers charge £50 per hour.
