1938 Alvis Speed 25 SC Charlesworth Saloon, reg. no. DRW 91

1938 Alvis Speed 25 SC Charlesworth Saloon, reg. no. DRW 914 (to be applied for), chassis 14858, engine 19591. This very attractive Alvis restoration project was bought by the vendor along with his brother in the early 1970s. They drove it home and decided to undertake its restoration between them. Apart from fitting new valve springs the engine ran well and they decided to leave it alone apart from regularly turning it over and putting oil peridocically down the bores. The coachbuilt Charlesworth body however had suffered and therefore it was removed from the chassis, de-panelled and had a new ash frame and subsequently re-panelled and painted in primer. In the meantime the chassis was blasted and repainted, all the suspension was re-built including new kingpins and the brakes were re-built. The radiator was cleaned and some new chrome work was undertaken. The owner stripped the car himself in the garage where the car has been on blocks since the 1970s and is confident that all there are no parts missing although it cannot be guaranteed. Although there is still a lot of work to be done including re-wiring, paint and trim work this is a rare and rewarding project. The car is known to the Alvis Owners Club archivist who has confirmed that it is an ex-works car and even supplied some photographs of it taken in the 1960s. He can also assist in getting back the original registration from the DVLA which is also confirmed by the original factory documents they hold. A fabulous and desirable car worthy of being finished and enjoyed. (Subject to 12% buyers premium inclusive of VAT)

Sold for £8,200
