The Vezzi porcelain factory, based in Venice, was the third European factory to produce true hard-paste porcelain, after Meissen and Vienna. In 1719, Francesco Vezzi visited Vienna, and a year later he obtained the services of the Christoph Conrad Hunger, an arcanist and technician who had also worked at Meissen.

The factory was only in operation for seven years, and fewer than 200 pieces of Vezzi porcelain are known to exist.

These beakers are characteristic of the playful style employed at the factory; see, for example, the statues 'coming to life' in the niches of the ruins.

 Lot 222. Est. £20,000-30,000
