Emmeline Pankhurst Suffragette and Activist (1858 - 1928)

Emmeline Pankhurst, Suffragette and Activist (1858-1928). A collected body of historical records in connection with Emmeline Pankhurst and other prominent suffragettes, comprising of signed letters, flyers, transcripts, press cuttings and other items.

 

Four handwritten letters signed E Pankhurst, 1926 and 1927, three sent from 2 Elsham Road, W14, and one from 35 Gloucester Street, SW1. All sent to Miss Ada Wright. First letter is an invitation to visit the next day, 'Christabel is here ...We are expecting the Brackenburys and Mrs Marshall'.

 

 

The second letter is a letter of thanks for the cheque amounting to £10, ' Now that I am formally adopted as a prospective candidate...Mrs Marshall and Mrs Wylie are standing as well...the first Women's meeting will be held on the 14th'. The third letter states 'Thank you for letting me know about Mrs. Scoles (Preston Women's Movement leader)....I didn't see Mrs Drummond on Thursday. She is in Scotland'.

 

 

 

The fourth letter states, 'I found myself tired and just able to keep with the Whitechapel work...I have Nellie Humpherson (Nellie Hall of the W.S.P. days) working in Whitechapel....'Christabel who is now in France having been invited to speak in Churches in Paris'.... Postcard dated 5 December 1928 to Miss Geraldine Lennox, 'Miss Whately regrets ... she will be unable to attend the gathering to meet Miss Pankhurst... she hopes to be invited to a reunion of the WSPU at some future date'.

 

 

Typed transcripts dated 1909, Statement of Lady Emily Lutyens of conversation with Dr. Price relating to her sister Lady Constance Lutyens imprisonment and the effects of the force feeding she suffered. Real photographic postcard Mrs Pankhurst, Mrs Pethick-Lawrence and Mr Pethick-Lawrence The Imprisoned Suffragist Leaders, May 22nd 1912. Album containing multiple newspaper clipping from The General Press Cutting Association regarding Mrs Pankhurst Memorial and its Westminster site, press photograph of the Memorial unveiling, obituary. Typed letters on HM Office of Works discussing the proposed site of the Memorial Statue. Some items that relate to Christabel Pankhurst and papers.
