Timed auctions are a relatively new concept, taking the lead from online platforms such as eBay. In a timed online auction, there is no auctioneer taking bids from a live audience in a room. Instead, each lot can be bid on for a defined period of time. Bids are placed online at any time whilst the sale is running and all visitors to the auction site can view the current highest bid. At the end of the allotted sale period, the bidder who has submitted the highest bid wins the lot, providing the bid exceeds the reserve price. Unlike eBay which is plagued by ‘sniping’ (winning bids being place in the last seconds or milliseconds of a sale), our timed auctions include a feature which will extend the time on any lot where a bid is placed in the last ten minutes, and will keep extending the time whilst bids are still being placed.
Timed auctions are typically online for up to a week or two and our sales close on Sunday evenings from 9pm. We hold a sale of Fine and Affordable Art several times a year, we also hold periodic timed sales of jewellery, silver, wine and spirits and Christmas presents and often utilise this sale format to offer one-off single owner collections sales.

Jack Stephenson was born at Grimsby, Lincolnshire and educated at East Ham Grammar School. He studied at Walthamstow School of Art, where tutors included Ken Howard and Fred Dubery and then Hornsby College of Art under Ian Simpson and David Tindle.
